September return to offices revives Spain’s real estate market

Many employers plan to return their staff back to the office in September. Meanwhile, working from home will also remain in place, although this will not be the norm for most companies.

With the onset of the pandemic, most firms in Spain were forced to switch to teleworking, leaving their offices empty. Against this background, some companies kept lease agreements for their headquarters, while others shuttered offices forever to cut costs.

The trend is now to create work spaces that fit the new model, mostly with open floor plans. There are companies, especially startups or small and medium enterprises that rent offices or co-working spaces, with flexible office options. Many companies today use a work model in which employees take turns, spending some days in the office and other days they work from home.

Although the traditional office work model is likely to change, office spaces in cities’ centers continue to attract investor interest.
