More people want homes in Asturias to escape big city life

According to Brains Real Estate portal, the average price of an apartment or villa in the Asturias region in late March 2021 increased by 14.2% compared to the same month of 2020. Meanwhile, prices rose by 2.9% from the previous quarter.

New homes saw the highest demand. Thus, prices for newly built properties increased by 9.1% in late June compared to the same period in 2020. Existing home prices rose by only 0.8% from the previous year.

“We noticed a change between the pre- and post-pandemic period. Isolation shifted priorities, and people understood what was right for them and what was not,” said a representative of Sellmi real estate agency.

“The existing demand can be divided into two groups: people who live in Asturias and want to move, and people from abroad who move for remote work, or want to have a second home. Although the number of requests has increased, not all transactions are being implemented, as demand exceeds supply. Those who want to change their apartments are looking for houses with a terrace. However, the choice is limited due to Asturias climate. Requirements for a second home usually include non-existent criteria. They often want a seafront house; however, the Cantabrian Sea, except for a few areas, is a protected area, and you cannot build there.“
