The most eco-friendly house in Europe is located in Barcelona: its design is hermetic, and the cost reaches 400,000 euros

Jose Antonio Gonzalez, founder and CEO of Arquima, spoke at the Rebuild tech fair to present the most eco-friendly house on the European continent.

The company's project received a similar title after passing a double certification in Passivhaus Premium (Passivhaus Institut) and receiving 5 quality leaves of VERDE (Green Building Council Spain) - one of the most demanding ratings in the world.

This house is an example of the advanced technological development of the construction industry in Spain. It is located in Sant Andreu de la Barca, Barcelona province), and boasts the ability to save up to 90% of the energy spent on its operation one way or another.

Antonio Gonzalez does not report the exact cost of such an object, but indicates: «The house can cost about 400,000 euros, not counting the value of the land under it».

The house covers an area of 312 sq.m. and consists of two floors. Inside there are 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The entire facility is built of prefabricated modules, made of wood conforming to Passivhaus standard. These materials and structures allow the building to achieve almost zero energy consumption.

The building has excellent sound insulation, suppressing, for example, car noise, rain or storm noise. Tightness allows you to maintain a comfortable temperature level in all rooms (approx. from 22 to 26 degrees) and prevent drafts. There is a mechanical ventilation system with heat return.

CEO Aequima explained during the presentation at Rebuild: «We have been monitoring the performance of the building for a year and found that it is even able to generate 10% of the energy consumed».

For heating and cooling of the premises, the house needs to spend about 10 kWh per sq.m. area, which gives energy savings of more than 90% compared to standard houses on the market built in accordance with the old Technical Building Code (TSK) Spain from 2006. If we compare the building with those that will be released to the market according to the latest TSC adopted on January 1, 2022, then energy efficiency is 50% higher.

In the company's social networks, regarding the announcement of this property, it was indicated that due to the modular system, they managed to assemble the house within just 2 days. For such a short period, it took a careful assessment of the path and time costs, as well as optimization during the transportation of modules, determining the number of trucks required, and so on.

Work on the assembly of such a house begins with the installation of load-bearing walls and partitions on the ground floor. With the help of a mobile crane, the prefabricated modules are lifted from the transport truck until they are secured to the appropriate sleepers.

The structure is made of spruce of strength class C24 with a humidity of less than 15%. For the facades and exterior, the company chose Douglas wood without sapwood, completely natural and maintenance-free. In addition, the facade was painted gray with the effect of weathered wood, which will help hide the traces of time in the future.
