European funds are ready to determine the future of the real estate sector

EL PAÍS and the international auditing and consulting company KPMG have agreed to organize a conference for experts in the field of real estate and construction. The purpose of the event should be to discuss problems, as well as new opportunities in the rental market.

Nowadays, the real estate market is experiencing some crisis.

After two years of uncertainty, many investors have returned to the market in search of safe, guaranteed income instruments and they expect to see new approaches on the market that meet modern conditions of low interest rates.

Key players in the sector, new investors, insurance companies and REITs (real estate investment funds) are actively exploring new ways to expand their asset portfolios.

At the moment, the main alternatives to classic earning tools are co-living and coworking, short- and medium-term rental real estate, as well as real estate for students and pensioners.

The conference of EL PAÍS and KPMG «The Future of Real Estate Sector», was held on February 28 with the participation of the President of KPMG Spain Juan Jose Cano. David Lucas, Secretary General for Real Estate of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Planning, also addressed the audience.

A wide range of experts were invited to the meeting to discuss pressing issues related to new models of market development.

The issues were the following: What trends will determine the development of the market in the coming years? What environmental solutions are available on the market? Should management companies motivate and help to increase the level of professionalism in the rental market? Should funds help revitalize local businesses?

Two large round tables were also held: «The main investment considerations in the development of the professional rental market» and «The positions of the largest participants in the rental housing market on its current state».

Both meetings were moderated by Marta Gonzalez Novo, CEO of Hoy Madrid.

Among the participants of the first round table were the following people: Daniel Mazin, CEO of Dazia Capital, Carmen Panadero, President of Women in Real Estate, Ramon Gayol, Partner of KPMG Spain in real estate, Araceli Martin-Navarro, President of Coword, and Ana Aranges, Managing Director of Sareb.

Carlos de Vega, Deputy editor at EL PAÍS, was the host of the event, which could be watched live on the publication's website and on social networks.
