Zaragoza ranks second in Spain in quality of life

According to the Social Progress Imperative index, Spain is among the top 20 countries in quality of life. If we consider its cities, two ones are the most attractive. Vigo takes the first place, and Zaragoza is the second. The difference between them is only one basic point of the rating. Why is Zaragoza so attractive, and what can help it become a leader?

Zaragoza is well known as a comfortable and peaceful place to live, it is a place with a rich culture, affordable public services, good infrastructure and inexpensive housing in the market. According to Spanish population polls, the Aragonese capital easily overtakes Valladolid, Cordoba, Malaga, Valencia, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Murcia in these indicators. Madrid and Barcelona have the worst reviews.

As mentioned above, one of the aspects most appreciated by the residents of Zaragoza is the local real estate market. Numerous brand-new development projects serve as a good shelter for investors from inflation and crises, but ordinary consumers still have enough offers in the market at affordable prices. Sales on the market have been growing for several years, and the first half of 2022 was a record for the capital of Aragon.

However, the city strives for more. In the coming years, the authorities intend to make it a benchmark in sustainable development, energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. The city plans to develop pedestrian zones and bike paths, create and expand parks and restore natural landscapes. One of the next changes that the authorities want to achieve in Zaragoza is to make the city air much cleaner.

The government has developed the "El Bosque de los Zaragozanos" programme to achieve these goals. 700,000 plants are planned to be planted for each resident of the city. Plaza de Salamero will soon be turned into a large green area with many pedestrian zones. The area of about 8,160 sq. m will get another 1,450 sq. m of flowerbeds, pergolas and metal structures with climbing plants.
