Where do the richest Spaniards invest?

Last year, Spain's leading fortunes had assets worth 143 billion euros, which is 10.45 billion or 6.8% less than in 2021, according to the latest list published by Forbes. However, another important question is where do the richest people invest, how are their portfolios formed, or what industries do they focus on in order to keep their wealth at a high level?

Starting with the largest fortune in Spain with 53.5 billion. euro, Amancio Ortega, it is worth noting that his main source of investment is still Inditex, the company of which he is the founder and main shareholder. However, its assets are integrated into the Pontegadea Group. This holding company manages his Inditex shares and invests dividends in real estate, mainly in Spain, the USA and the UK, and manages them on a rental basis. The real estate sector is one of the favorites of Spain's largest fortunes, in which more than 8.5 billion euros have been invested (with a special predilection for North American lands).

Sandra Ortega Mera, the daughter of Amancio Ortega and his first wife Rosalia Mera, has a net worth of 5.4 billion euros. Her wealth is mainly due to Inditex, in which she is the second largest shareholder, although, like her father, she diversifies her investments through the holding company Rosp Corunna. This is a company that controls its stake in Inditex, and also has stable stakes in other companies, for example, a 5% stake in Pharma Mar. The company also owns a 30% stake in Room Mate Hotels, a hotel group owned by businessman Kika Sarasola, although this investment was unsuccessful and Room Mate entered bankruptcy proceedings.

In third place is Rafael del Pino, Chairman of the board of Directors of Ferrovial and its main individual shareholder through his company Rijn Capital, which owns assets, with which he also invests in other industries and companies. Del Pino, whose net worth is 3.8 billion euros, invests in a diversified manner in various regions and markets to reduce the level of risk. Especially in the construction sector.
