The most impressive and unknown places in Spain

The country offers thousands of places for those who want to spend time in Spain There you can disconnect from the outside world for a few days and get the most out of it. Some of them are famous, but others deserve even more attention. Antonio Puente Mayor created a list of these places for his guidebook. It is called “España inédita, 100 lugares fascinantes que debes conocer” ("Unreleased Spain, 100 fascinating places you must visit").

This list is offered for those who want to expand their horizons or see Spain from a different, unexplored side. You can buy real estate for a seasonal vacation or for a permanent residence near each of them.

Faedo de Ciñera, the oldest forest in Spain

This ancient forest in Ciñera de Gordón is about 40 km from León. Relic beech forests, reaching 30 meters in height, are still here. Several gorges with streams of water decorate the natural landscape. The Ministry of the Environment declared this forest as the best remaining throughout Spain. Among its curiosities is the Fagus fig tree, which is over 500 years old. It is 6 meters in circumference. There is an old coal mine at the base of the tree, now turned into a museum. According to legend, the witch ghost named Haeda lives here. This cave is part of a 10 km route to the village of Villar de Río.

You can buy a country house for two families and a bar for only 96,000 euros in the same Ciñera village.

Matarraña region, "the Spanish Tuscany"

The Matarraña region is located between the mountains of Puertos de Belceite, to the north of Teruel, where the river of the same name flows full with waterfalls and crystal water pools. The Matarraña region is often referred to as "the Spanish Tuscany". A 14th-century Gothic castle declared a national monument and the church of Santa María la Mayor are located in Valderrobres, the administrative capital of this region. The peculiar medieval landmarks have earned it the place in the association of the most beautiful villages in Spain.

A 20-hectare restored estate is for sale, including an 18th-century stone farmhouse on the village’s outskirts. The price is 495,000 euros.

Banyoles, "the Catalan Loch Ness"

This lake with turquoise water and a beautiful wooden jetty is surrounded by mountains. It is located in the Girona province and considered the largest lake in Catalonia. It also has a sailing club that have hosted the rowing competitions at the Olympics in 1992. Like Loch Ness, Banyoles is associated with a legend from the Charlemagne’s time. According to this legend a dragon lives in the depths of this lake.

Halfway between Banyoles and Girona, you can buy a country house in Pla de l'Estany. It costs only 620,000 euros.
