The volume of tenders for public housing has increased in Spain

In 2021, the state and city administrations commissioned residential facilities in the amount of 840.1 million euros. 81% was for new construction, and the remaining 19% was for reconstruction.

The growth of tenders

In 2021, there was a significant increase in tenders for public housing. The organizers of such tenders were the administrative units of Spain.

For the whole year, projects totaling 840.1 million euros were implemented, which is 26.2% more than a year earlier, according to data published by the Association of Construction Companies and Infrastructure Concessionaires (Seopan). The increase compared to 2019, before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, was 64%.

Among the total number of tenders, 680.8 million euros are for new works, which is 81% of the total volume. 159.2 million euros or 19% of the total amount was spent on restoration and maintenance.

In the case of new construction, the increase compared to last year was 22.2%, and in the case of reconstruction - 47%. In December, the number of tenders amounted to 113.6 million euros, which was quite good after 73 million euros in November. However, the highest result in this category was recorded in April — 139.7 million euros.

In 2021, the volume of tenders in the construction sector as a whole by administrations amounted to 8,441 million euros, which is 53.2% more than in the same period last year. Compared to 2019, the increase before the pandemic is 21%.

In addition to real estate, the construction fund includes educational, health and sports facilities, as well as administrative, industrial and social facilities. Similarly, in the period from January to October, the volume of tenders for construction work amounted to 15,206 million euros, which is 77.5% more than in 2020 and 34.9% more than in 2019. Finally, the total volume of public tenders during this period (including construction and civil works) amounted to 23,648.3 million euros, which is 68% more than last year.
