Foreign investment in Madrid increased by 3% in the second quarter

Foreign investment in the Madrid Community increased by 3% in the second quarter of 2021, while in the rest of Spain it decreased by 13.9%.

According to Madrid President Isabel Diaz Oso, Madrid is currently the third most attractive European city for foreign investment. In 2021, it attracted 60% of foreign investments, the total amount of which amounted to EUR 4,000,000,000.

This figure is three times the volume of foreign investment in Catalonia and ten times in the Valencian Community. According to the President, the main foreign investments come from countries such as Luxembourg, the USA, France and the UK. The leading sectors in Madrid for these investors are telecommunications, energy and the real estate market.

According to the President of Madrid, investors are attracted by the low taxation of the region, which seeks not only to further reduce taxes, but also to eliminate its own taxes.

Thus, the Madrid Community will become the only region of Spain within the framework of the common system that will not have its own regional taxes, with the abolition of the tax on the installation of equipment in hotels and catering establishments, the tax on the deposit of waste and the surcharge on the tax on economic activity.
