The Government of Spain to adopt a new housing law in January

The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda of Spain (Mitma), Raquel Sánchez, reported that the Government planned to adopt a law on the right to housing on January 18. The law will allow autonomous communities to limit rental costs.

Sánchez said that they would soon receive the report of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), considered that everything was ready to transmit the bill to the Council of Ministers, and noted that they were not concerned about the content of the report.

The text amends some aspects of the Civil Procedure Act, for which the CGPJ report is obligatory.

The law has caused distrust in the real estate sector, which agrees that its adoption will lead to a reduction in supply, deterioration of real estate services, and the transition of the rental market to the underground economy.
