Spain's first municipal

The City Council of Lugo has presented the building renovation project in O Carme, the heart of the Camino Primitivo district in Santiago de Compostela, with the aim of turning it into Spain's first "creative coliving" municipal project.

This project should mark Lugo as one of the best places for creative development, providing with an opportunity for coexistence for a variety of creative personalities and the development of new directions in art.

In order to develop this "coexistence" of creative professionals, Lugo City Council plans to provide annual grants, coupled with direct consultations of the professionals themselves, to create independent artistic associations and establish contacts between these individuals and other representatives of the cultural sphere.

In addition to the renovation of the pointed building, an additional facility, a wood and glass exhibition hall, will be erected to organize exhibitions and develop an open cultural area in which concerts, performances or other types of events can be organized.

Also, about 3,000 m2 of planted land will be restored next to the coliving. This space will be used not only by the residents of the building for their cultural activities, but also by ordinary residents of Lugo, who will be able to visit the green area for recreation and cultural time.

This project, financed from European funds and being part of Dusi Muraminhae's strategy for the development of Lugo, was put out for tender a week after the announcement (approx. at the end of April 2022). The city council itself plans to invest €500,000 in the renovation.
