The Rebuild techno fair in Madrid reaches a record high of 17,344 visitors per week

The Rebuild technology fair, designed for cooperation between professionals in the Spanish construction sector, has completed its fifth iteration, breaking the record for the weekly number of participants: 17,344 visitors and 372 participating firms.

581 international experts were gathered at «National Congress on Architecture 4.0», and the total economic effect of the event for Madrid reached 37 million euros.

According to the organizers, the current event was dedicated to the challenges facing the Spanish construction industry. Challenges that require greater industrialization, digitalization and sustainable development of the industry to increase efficiency, competitiveness and a more responsible approach to development in the future.

David Martinez, Chairman of Rebuild and Chief Legal Adviser at Aedas Homes, said that the fair was «the most innovative event in the industry, always committed to the industrialization and digitalization of the sector, following high standards of sustainable development».

The Operating Director of Ex Situ, Candido Zamora, drew attention to the lack of projects and proposals aimed at accelerating the industrialization of the construction sector. She recalled that in Spain only about 1% of the total construction volume aims to develop this criterion. In view of this, the industry still has a very long way to modernize the sector.

As part of the industrialization of the construction sector, one of the trends gaining popularity in Spain is developing — BTR (Build to Rent/Construction for rent). Specifically, we are talking about construction projects whose sole purpose is to create a wide offer of sufficiently affordable real estate for rent.

Emma Bellosta Barriuso, asset manager at Stoneweg, a company engaged in market development in this direction, explained: «We chose the BTR model because of the urgent demand for such products on the market: by 2024, it is expected that the market will need more than 80,000 homes to meet consumer demand. In the next decade, it is about half a million. The share of real estate for rent in the housing stock of Spain is only 24%. For comparison, the average in Europe is around 33%, and in countries such as Germany, it already reaches 49%».
