Number of Spanish hotels for sale grows

According to a study by Idealista.com, the leading Spanish real estate portal, there is a growing increase in the number of hotels on sale in Spain. Overall, 639 hotels have been listed for sale, up by 30% compared to 2020, when the figure was 490. Meanwhile, in coastal areas, there is a 44% increase.

Despite an improvement in tourism activity in Spain compared to summer 2020, the ripple effect of the Covid-19 has far-ranging economic consequences.

The country's most popular tourist destinations still have low occupancy rates. Also, some hotels are closed, especially those hosting tourists from countries that still have travel restrictions in place, such as the United Kingdom.

By region, almost half of all hotels on sale are in:

  • Andalusia - 135
  • Catalonia - 113
  • The Balearic Islands - 67
  • Valencia - 57
  • The Canary Islands - 47

By provinces, most of the hotels listed for sale are in:

  • Barcelona - 65
  • Malaga - 54
  • Girona - 40
  • Granada - 37
  • Las Palmas - 33
  • Alicante - 29
  • Pontevedra - 29
  • Madrid - 23
