Investments in student dormitories are growing in Spain

A new report on the real estate market in Spain notes that investments in student dormitories are growing.

In 2021, investments amounted to more than EUR 400,000,000, which is 21% higher than the total investment in 2020.

Foreign investors are mainly interested in investments, although the creation of joint ventures with international capital is becoming more and more frequent.

It is expected that 20 projects with 5,100 new beds will enter the market in 2022, as a result of which the total number of beds will exceed 100,000.

In the period from 2022 to 2023, 14,600 new places will be added in 36 projects. However, despite the large-scale implementation of new projects, the supply of beds will increase only to 8.3%.

As for the location of new projects, Barcelona, Madrid and Seville will account for 53% of its number and 63% of the beds planned for the period from 2022 to 2023.

Despite the fact that over the past five years the number of beds in Spain has increased by 10%, the provision is 7.1%, i.e. one bed for every 14 students.

In its aspirations, the Spanish market is focused on the UK, where the level reaches 33%, i.e. one bed per student.
