Apartment for rent on 12 square meters for 650 euros per month or how greed becomes a meme

Humor is a refuge from many problems. The problem with housing affordability in Spain has already become a textbook and has created the ground for funny and frankly ironic situations. So, recently, a unique offer for potential tenants has been created in the Spanish segment of the Internet.

One of the Twitter accounts specializing in finding the most absurd real estate offers on the relevant portals published a post with a screenshot of a questionnaire offering to rent an apartment in Madrid on 12 square meters for 650 (!) euros per month.

However, for those who actively follow the Spanish residential market, such an event is not at all surprising. For Madrid, if such proposals have not become the norm, then at least they are a stable regularity. Houses without windows, apartments with a storage area, simply uninhabitable properties — all this flashes with enviable regularity on the most popular real estate sites in the country.

The post was accompanied by an ironic comment: "If you are one of those who comes home tired from work, then this is the place for you! No need to clean up, there's nothing to do in it and you don't even have to stand. For just 650 euros, enjoy this small, useful space of 12 squares in Madrid!". For a clearer perspective, the monthly salary in Madrid, on average, is around 1,500-1,600 euros.

The apartment is located in Lavapies, the central district of Madrid, and the images published in the questionnaire leave very little room for imagination. In fact, imagination will take up most of the room, since it is already "packed": a bathroom, a bedroom and a living room with a kitchen. All this is within the framework of a tiny attic room of low height.

Unfortunately, in reality, thousands of Spanish citizens live in such attic apartments and their number grows the more the economic situation becomes more difficult and prices on the market rise. More and more people are losing the opportunity to purchase and even rent new housing and this cannot but affect the prospects of the market.
