Statistics has been published on real estate transactions in the territory of Spain in March 2022.
Best and worst performers
According to the official data, real estate sales grew by 25.6% year-on-year, reaching the number of 59,272 transactions per month. According to INE, this is the best performance since January 2008.
Autonomous communities with the highest annual increase in the number of real estate purchase and sale transactions in March were the Balearic Islands (plus 99.5%), Valencia (40.1%), and Andalusia (37.1%).
Growth was the lowest in Madrid (4.5%), Cantabria (6.5%), and Galicia (10.0%). Below-average performance was registered in Catalonia (14%), La Rioja (14.3%), Extremadura (15.3%), Basque Country (18.5%) and Aragon (22.5%). In the other regions, the number of transactions grew by more than 30% year-on-year.
Mortgage transactions: 43,378
The number of mortgage loans increased by approximately 6,608 transactions in March 2022 compared to March 2021, or by 17.97%, reaching 43,378.
The greatest number of home loans was recorded in Andalusia (8,966), Catalonia (7,545), and Madrid (7,308).
Other categories of transactions: 15,894
In March 2022, 15,894 residential units were purchased without home loans. Mortgage-free transactions accounted for 26.8% of the total housing sales.
Sales of new residences: 11,510
In March 2022, the number of transactions with new housing increased by 15.69% compared to the same period last year, reaching 11,510.
Sales of existing housing: 47,762
The number of purchase and sales transactions with existing housing grew by 28.26% year-on-year, reaching 47,762.
Sales to foreigners
The number of transactions with foreigners grew the most in the following Spanish provinces: the Balearic Islands (plus 35.4%), the Canary Islands (26.9%), Valencia (25.5%), Murcia (19.4%), Andalusia (15.1%), and Catalonia (12.8%).
